North Andover baseball reaches North Final Four again in Division 2

In the quarterfinal round of the Division 2 North state tournament on June 5, the North Andover baseball team, the defending North champs, defeated visiting Marblehead, 5-3. With the, win, the top-seeded Scarlet Knights improved to 18-4. They played Beverly in the North semifinals on June 7 after press deadline. The winner plays for the North championship at Lowell?s LeLacheur Park Saturday.

Ninth-seeded Marblehead, meanwhile, finished the year at 12-10.

Pitcher Tyler Leavitt improved to 7-0 after a complete game effort over the Headers. He gave up three runs on six hits. The senior walked one, and struck out six.

?[Leavitt] pitched very well,? said North Andover coach Todd Dulin. ?He kept them off balance, and our defense was outstanding making just one error.?

The offense had nine hits. Levaitt helped his own cause after going 2 for 3 at the plate, while Rick O?Connor and Dan Rivet both went 2 for 4. Tyler Whitley had an RBI double. John Iannone added an RBI single. Brandon Walsh had an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

North Andover plated single runs in the second and fourth innings, and scored three times in the third

In North Andover?s first round game on June 3, also at home, the locals rolled over Tewksbury, 9-2. Walsh was the winning pitcher going five innings. He gave up two hits, and two walks, while fanning 10. He was also an offensive hero with a two-run homer and a two-run double to finish up with four RBI. O?Connor was 2 for 4, and scored two runs.

The Knights scored three times in the first, and two more in the second. They added one more in the third, and three more in the fourth.

Tewksbury, the 16th-seed, finished 8-14. They avoided the shut out with two runs in the fourth.
