Home-Based Business ? The Eeyore Factor | Import CSV Using ...

Have you ever regarded as just how much your attitude reflects your potential to do well

?Nobody tells me. Nobody retains me knowledgeable. I make it 17 times come Friday considering the fact that anyone spoke to me.? Eeyore

I bear in mind watching cartoons with my kids and watching the ragged small Eeyore on Winnie the Pooh. His home would drop or his tail would come off or he landed unexpectedly inside the river and Eeyore, inside a deep monotone voice would say, ??When trapped inside the river, it is greatest to dive and swim for the financial institution oneself before someone drops a significant stone in your chest in an attempt to hoosh you there.?

Eeyore constantly expected a thing negative to happen ? and it typically did. We usually laughed at his misery both simply because we find it profoundly funny or ironic. In some cases art really does imitate lifestyle.

Charlie Brown, Sad Sack and Ziggy had been also among the ranks of cartoon?s terrific pessimists. And if they weren?t entirely pessimistic then they had been a minimum of bereft from the proverbial ?break? that will grant them achievement.

We all view these cartoons and we giggle simply because we?ve been where they are. Maybe we?re definitely laughing at ourselves due to the fact we can identify with the feelings of failure.

For anyone who is seeking to begin a home-based enterprise you must realize that by choosing your mindset you can substantially alter the way you respond towards the issues that come up.

Choose this tiny quiz.

1. Do disappointments make you feel just like a failure or would you appear in the disappointment as a new opportunity

2. When you strike a roadblock are you currently additional inclined to cease lifeless in your tracks or look for a brand new route to good results

3. Does one go right into a small business notion with all the underlying belief which you will most likely fail or does one in the end believe you are going to do well

4. Are you exited about your home-based business enterprise or does one really feel slightly apathetic towards the thought of owning a home-based company

The solutions to these incredibly easy concerns can help you recognize in case your see of home-based businesses is sure up in pessimism or if you?re extra optimistic in your outlook on life and business.

?No Give and Consider. No Trade of Believed. It gets you nowhere, particularly if the other person?s tail is barely just in sight for that second fifty percent with the conversation.? ? Eeyore

At times I question what the figures could possibly be on home-based enterprises that failed basically mainly because the proprietor had offered up ahead of they ever before truly obtained began Honestly, don?t you want there was a solution to monitor that info. It could likely have a profound effect on our personal business outlook.

All of us prefer to be around individuals who?ve an optimistic frame of mind plus a great concept about exactly where they want to go together with their life and organization. An optimistic outlook is attractive to other individuals, however it appears fewer and fewer people possess some thing they are able to eventually decide on, but choose rejection instead.

If you?ve been acting a bit like Eeyore perhaps it?s time for an mindset adjustment Your home-based business may well just depend on it.

Regular activity is part of a healthy approach to life.

? About Dr. Savant

Watch the video below, or Read More.

If you?ve seen any of my other videos or see me in the office you know that one of the major themes for good health I like to touch on is exercise. Actually, keeping an active lifestyle with exercise as a part of it would be more accurate. An active lifestyle would be choosing to do things that get you off your chair or couch; doing things for fun like playing tennis or hiking. Or maybe parking a little further away from where you need to go shopping and walking a little more, taking the stairs instead of the elevator. There are all kinds of small things you can do throughout the day to increase your activity. Going to the gym is good but complementing that regular exercise with regular activity is even better. Did you notice that the operative word here is ?regular??

Why whinging about online retail is not helping your business | The ...

Online business is booming and continues to grow every year. Consumers buy everything from storage cabinets to imported food online. There is no stopping this trend and the sooner retailers realize it the better for them. Many large bricks-and-mortar chain store CEO?s are bemoaning the fact that they are losing revenue to online businesses such as Amazon. This kind of attitude is not helping and the only way to ensure continued company profits is to bow to consumer demand and open an online presence. Stores that have both physical properties and virtual real-estate are ideally positioned to take advantage of all customer shopping preferences.

Opening an online division is good for business

Already existing stores are ideally positioned to take advantage of the internet boom. Stores that sell merchandise such as storage closets for instance, are in the position to easily fulfill customer orders since they already have distribution channels. Some customers prefer to pick up their storage cabinets in person at the store after ordering online, while others are willing to pay the shipping fee to have their purchase delivered. Being successful in business is all about giving the customer as many choices as possible.

Taking advantage of virtual store-fronts

Business owners can realize savings because ordering online is an easy process and can be accomplished by automated software. There is no need to deal with salespeople when the ordering software takes care of all the details. Taxes and shipping costs are immediately calculated and the order is processed very quickly. Once the order is complete it is sent to the fulfillment center where it can be shipped out to customers as soon as it is received. Most stores already have shipping and receiving areas, and if not, it is easy to implement.

Stores that offer customers a choice of shopping methods have a higher customer satisfaction and retention rate. When customers already trust a brand they continue to buy that brand especially if it is made easy for them. Not everyone wants to go to a store to choose storage cabinets and if they can do so online they will have no reason to shop at a competing website. Customers like shopping at local or national businesses that have an online presence. It gives them a feeling of safety since the store is known and if they need to return purchases they can go right to the store. Having an online presence makes sense for business owners.

FTC Worried About Big Online Platforms, Only Sort Of Means Facebook and Google

ftc reportThe Federal Trade Commission just released a new report laying out its current thinking on Internet privacy. In some cases, the commission recommends new legislation, while in others it just want to hold more workshops. The FTC previously released a "privacy framework" in December 2010. The framework outlined three principles that the commission wants companies to follow, including "privacy by design" (which means thinking about privacy at every stage of product development), simplified consumer choice, and greater transparency. It made perhaps its biggest splash by endorsing a "Do Not Track" mechanism in Web browsers. The FTC didn't invent the idea, but DNT has gained more momentum?since it made the endorsement.

Supplier Connection: Will It Really Help Help Small Businesses Get ...

IBM and several other large corporations have launched a directory where small?businesses?can get listed to do business with large corporations.

Called the Supplier Connection, the site is open to U.S. small businesses.

If you are wondering what ?small? means, it means your business has to have less than $50 Million in revenues or fewer than 500 employees. ?You have to provide products or services in chemicals, construction, consulting, financial services, auto parts, HR services, information technology, marketing communications, market research, printing, software or security (for the full list, see the Supplier Connection website).

Some of the large corporations that are involved along with IBM include JP Morgan Chase, Kellogg?s, ?Pfizer, Caterpillar, Citi, ?JohnDeere, AMD and Facebook. ?The U.S. Small Business Administration has also gotten behind it.

But Is It Realistic for Small Businesses?

When I first heard about this from Laurie McCabe?s site, I thought it was a great idea. I was excited and decided to try it out.

What I discovered is that the paperwork and requirements are daunting.

First, let?s talk about the paperwork. ?Bureaucracy is a huge barrier to growth for small businesses ? even the perception of heavy?bureaucracy is a barrier. ?According to the Wall Street Journal, one business owner reported that completing a Supplier Profile is ?not a one-hour routine? but takes commitment.

Most small businesses don?t have anything near the 500-employee limit for this program ? instead, think 5 employees. ?That is a much more common size for a small business. ?In a 5-employee small business, there?s rarely anyone you can assign who will have all the knowledge to complete the paperwork. ?The business owner will likely be handling the paperwork himself or herself, probably in the evening (since that?s the only time available).

Beyond the paperwork is the whole issue of whether you can meet the system?s mandatory requirements. ?I started filling out the application and managed to get through the first four steps out of 9, in 20 minutes. ??Hmm, that?s not so bad,? I thought.

Then I got to step 5, the Environment section. It stopped me cold. ?For instance, how many of?you could say ?yes? to the following?

  • Does your company have a Corporate Responsibility and Environmental Management System, which measures performance, sets goals, and discloses results?
  • Does your company define, deploy, and sustain your corporate responsibility and environmental management system through your engagement with your suppliers?
  • Does your company cascade this set of requirements to your suppliers who perform work that is material to the products, parts and/or services being supplied to your customer?

In all, there were over 20 questions about environmental, ISO9001 and ISO14001 compliance ? 16 of them required fields to answer.

Very few small businesses with under say, 20 employees, could say yes to the above questions. ?And what if you answer ?no?? ?Well, you are required to specify the exact day, month and year when you plan to be in compliance.

In our business we ?have no plans to create environmental policies and systems. ?Being an Internet publisher we shut off lights when we don?t need them, recycle paper and soda cans, avoid printing emails and documents unless absolutely necessary, and use power management options on our computers and other equipment. ?But we do not write corporate policies about those actions ? we just do them.

Our suppliers (other small businesses and entrepreneurs) would laugh ? or cry ? if we asked them if they complied. ? There?s no way that even if we wrote policies and systems, that we ?could ?cascade? that requirement to our suppliers.

So that was the end of my attempt to complete the application. ?I gave up.

Some Bright Spots

On the other hand, I do see positives with this program:

  • For those who go through the paperwork process, it is something that can give your business a competitive edge. ?Just think of all those who will give up or can?t meet the requirements.
  • Another positive: ?you can start the application process and save it as a draft, and finish or edit it later. ?That way you can divide up the work and spread it out over a few days if you need to.
  • Finally, there?s just the fact that this directory exists. ?IBM is to be commended for starting it. ?In concept it?s a great idea.

I urge IBM and all the other corporations involved to streamline the requirements to make them more realistic for small businesses. ?Otherwise, the Supplier Connection will be more about medium size businesses. ?And I?d love nothing more than to come back and update you that the application has been streamlined.

95% The Kid with a Bike

All Critics (79) | Top Critics (22) | Fresh (75) | Rotten (4)

The Dardennes' quiet, naturalistic style strips this story of melodrama but not of emotion.

Without diminishing the boy's intensity or making him in any way ingratiating, the Dardennes take us into his mind, and we begin to appreciate not only his predicament but his resiliency.

The Dardennes' latest is one of their best, a memorable cinematic portrait of troubled youth and soul-saving charity.

Young Thomas Doret fills the role with natural sincerity and focus, and not a second that seems contrived.

Makes a powerful statement about the plight of unwanted children. But it also incorporates elements of melodrama, film noir, and even the fairy tale that engage our empathy and confirm the Dardennes' great compassion.

A wonderfully human and humane story about one of those lost-and-found children who tend to slip through society's not-so-safe safety nets.

[The Dardennes'] latest threads back to previous works in intriguing and satisfying ways...

To their credit, the Dardennes portray their subjects with a minimum of sentimentality.

It seems like a fairly minor movie, although one with major emotional pull.

Remains an effective picture with a genuine feel for human behavior, unearthing a direct sense of disturbance and a few select moments of stunning psychological clarity.

A film of rosy optimism it features a beguiling performance from screen newcomer doret who achieves a wonderfully natural, touching chemistry with de France.

Beyond Samantha's hard-to-fathom loyalty, many of the plot twists are predictable and contrived.

You wouldn't exactly call The Kid With a Bike a feel-good movie, but by the end it certainly invites the viewer to be hopeful about human nature. Another gem from the boys.

Dardenne heroes are crafty and restless, down but not out, and Cyril ought to be one of their best. For whatever reason, he isn't, quite.

Compassionate, humane but never sentimental.

Simple grace is a quality rarer in modern films than one might expect, as is the yard-by-yard, in-the-trenches slog of messy human connection, absent a lot of cathartic speechifying. Both are on rich display here.

The Dardenne siblings keep the story moving at a cracking pace, scrupulously avoid any syrupy sentiment, and deliver a drama that's both emotionally wrenching and morally complex.

An organically unfolding plot and riveting performances make this Cannes prize winner searing and sad.

...never soft-pedals the treacherous byways and alternative routes that [protagonist] Cyril only narrowly avoids on his road to security and happiness.

The Kid With A Bike cuts to the humanist heart of a boy's troubled 'rite de passage', without ever resorting to exaggerated emoting or cheap sensationalism.

Belgian writer/director/producers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne capture with heartfelt verisimilitude a boy's misplaced determination to find a father figure.

A show for 'Project Runway's' newest champ?

Joey L / Lifetime

By Anna Chan

"Project Runway" fan favorite Mondo Guerra was crowned the winner of the "All Stars" season Thursday, but he may not be done with reality TV.

Sure, this was his second shot on the Lifetime fashion-design competition, but who says he can't do it again? "Producers have kind of talked to me," Mondo told TODAY.com on Friday. "I might be back on 'Project Runway.' Not as a contestant, but as a ... you'll see!" What a tease!

The "Runway" champ revealed that there could be more TV life beyond "Runway" for him too.?Fellow "All Stars" contestant Austin Scarlett had a Lifetime show?called?"On the Road With Austin and Santino," and it sounds like it's possible Mondo may get a?program as well. "My producer was definitely having a couple of conversations," Mondo told us. "It's in the works."

Though things may be brewing for TV, the designer also admitted that it's not always fun having a camera in your face, following your every move. When he saw part?one of the finale (which aired March 15) and watched himself get moody and upset while trying to create his final runway show, "I was really quite embarrassed," Mondo admitted.

On season eight, he had become a fan favorite not only for his creative designs, but also for his fun and quirky personality. When the darker side came out on "All Stars," the designer said he received some negative feedback. "A lot of people were like, 'Oh, you were so nice last year, and now you're condescending and whining and ungrateful. Now I want Austin to win.' That hurt my feelings," he said.

Mondo admitted that pressure contributed to the frustration viewers saw on the show this time. At the end of season eight, Lifetime posted a poll asking fans to vote on who should've won. "Ninety-five percent of the audience chose me, and 5 percent went to (winner) Gretchen (Jones)," he said. "It was really a lot of weight. ... I think because of having all the support from all the fans ... I really wanted to do my best in 'All Stars' for them. So that was a lot of pressure, and it did get to me at certain points and you saw it get to me."

That self-destructive side of him? "It's because I have such passion and attachment to what I produce," Mondo explained. "Sometimes, it doesn't come across on television, and it translates as bitchy, whiny, emotionally discharged Mondo."

So what's next for him, besides a possible show and spending?his $100,000 cash prize? The other part of being the champ: the?one-year gig as a guest editor at Marie Claire magazine. As fans of the show may know, the job also comes with a certain new co-worker (of sorts) who goes by the name of Nina Garcia, the publication's fashion director. Yes, one of the "Project Runway" season eight judges who threw her support behind the former season's winner, Gretchen, instead of eventual runner-up, Mondo.

Possible awkward work moments ahead for Nina and the designer? Maybe not.

Mondo told TODAY.com that the first time he saw the judge after season eight's final critique, "We ran into her and automatically, my stomach turned."?But he went up to Nina, thanked her for her honesty and received an admission from the judge.

"She said, 'You know what? Because of my decision and because of you, I can't walk down the street without people yelling at me,' " Mondo recalled. "I think it's been harder on (judge) Michael Kors and Nina more than myself. ... It's one thing to hold on to the past and even better to look to the future. So I really am honored to work with Nina on a professional level, and hopefully, a friendship will come out of it."

What type of show would you like to see Mondo on? Share your thoughts on our Facebook page!

Reader Rants: Takes on Jose Aldo, ?The Ultimate Fighter? and touching gloves

Welcome to another edition of Reader Rants, where your opinions take center stage. Taken from the Cagewriter Facebook page, each rant comes from a Cagereader. If you want to join in, go to Cagewriter's Facebook page, like it, and comment on stories.

No opponent has yet been named for Jose Aldo's title bout in Calgary. One reader wants to see him try out lightweight instead.

I'd like to see him test the waters at 155, a la Anderson vs Irvin/Griffin. I think he would be the most likely candidate for a concurrent belt holder. (Jones at HW is ridiculous. He is an awesome, absolutely spectacular fighter, but his frame is not that of a HW.) -- John Wilcox

Friday night's "The Ultimate Fighter" quick ending also caused a reaction.

I don't like abusing the term "got caught" when referring to a fighter being stopped via KO or submission, but that's exactly what happened to Daron Cruikshank. I appreciate what James Vick pulled off, but I can't unequivocally say he's the better fighter. -- Brandon Artiles

But nothing inspired more comments than Sheila Gaff's knockout of Jennifer Maia. When Maia raised her hand to touch gloves, Gaff started swinging.

They touched gloves earlier. It should be discussed before the fight if they will touch gloves at 1st round. For all we know, she had her arm outstretched to size up distance. I doubt it, but we have no clue what was going through her head. Maybe they decided to touch gloves at the beginning of the round and the other girl screwed her over, who knows? -- Will Howard

She was totally in the right throwing that punch. The referee says 2 things at the start of the fight "obey my commands at all times" and "protect yourselves at all times". Touching gloves should be outlawed once the fight begins, it causes too many of these issues (Wes Sims v Frank Mir 1). It also puts the fighters at a disadvantage. If they touch gloves they give up their range, if they don't it's perceived as poor sportsmanship when all they're doing is following referee instructions. -- Ellis Lett Garnette

The bell rang, it was on. Yes, touching gloves is a classy thing to do but it is a tactical decision that came back to bite her. That said, it was a cheap shot. -- Nick Sicinski

The Southeastern Universities Research Association today announced that Henry F. Schaefer III, Graham Perdue Professor of Chemistry at the University of Georgia, will receive its 2012 SURA Distinguished Scientist Award.

The annual honor goes to a research scientist whose extraordinary work fulfills the SURA mission of "fostering excellence in scientific research." The award and its $20,000 honorarium will be presented to Schaefer on March 29, in conjunction with the SURA Board of Trustees meeting being held at the University of South Florida in Tampa.

"Not only is the University of Georgia fortunate to have a scientist of Dr. Schaefer's caliber on its campus, but the entire region and country benefit from his service as well," said Charles W. Steger, President of Virginia Tech and Chair of the SURA Council of Presidents. "His impact on chemistry and research has been felt far beyond his lab and classroom, bringing great distinction to himself, his university, and his field of study. It is an honor for SURA to be able to recognize Dr. Schaefer's years of outstanding achievements."

In over 30 years of academic service, Schaefer has focused his field of study on the cutting-edge theoretical and computations methods for calculating electronic structure in order to better understand the structure stability and reactivity of molecules. He applies the resulting insights to a broad set of interests ranging from atmospheric and organic chemistry to combustion.

His list of publications number over 1,300, with the vast majority in the field's highest quality journals. In their letter of nomination of Dr. Schaefer, UGA President Michael F. Adams and Vice President for Research David Lee noted, "Collectively, his publications have been cited more than 50,000 times, making him one of the most high cited chemists (as well as scientists) in the world." He's also given plenary lectures at over 240 scientific conferences as well as named/endowed lectures at over 50 universities worldwide.

A native of Michigan, Dr. Schaefer received his bachelor's degree in chemical physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and doctorate in the same field from Stanford University. He served as a professor of chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley from 1969 to 1987.

In 1987, he was appointed Graham Perdue Professor of Chemistry and Director of the Center for Computational Quantum Chemistry at UGA. Though his career, he has accepted numerous academic appointments including at Berkley, the University of Paris, the Eidgenssische Technische Hochshule in Zrich and the Australian National University.

In 2004, 300 scientists from 35 countries gathered in Gyeongju, Korea for a six-day conference, "Theory and Applications of Computational Chemistry: A Celebration of 1000 Papers of Professor Henry F. Schaefer III." And in 2010, the University of California at Berkeley honored Professor Schaefer with an international conference titled, "Molecular Quantum Mechanics: From Methylene to DNA and Beyond."

Among his many awards and honors, Schaefer has been recognized by the American Chemical Society with its Award in Pure Chemistry (1979), the Leo Hendrik Baekeland Award (1983), the Award in Theoretical Chemistry and the annual Ira Remsen Award (2003). He received the Schrdinger Medal (1990), the Centenary Medal of the Royal Society of Chemistry (1992), the prestigious Joseph O. Hirschfelder Prize from the University of Wisconsin (2005), and the Ide P. Trotter Prize of Texas A&M University (2011). The Journal of Physical Chemistry published a special issue in honor of Dr. Schaefer in 2004. And he was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2004), the Royal Society of Chemistry in London (2005) and was among the inaugural class of Fellows of the American Chemical Society (2009).

In their nomination letter of nominee, Adams and Lee added, "Fritz is always quick to credit a steady stream of brilliant trainees and colleagues over the past 30 years." As Preceptor and mentor, he's had 58 undergraduate research publish papers with him, 97 successful Ph.D. students as well as 48 postdoctoral fellows.

The SURA Distinguished Scientist Award was established in 2007, commemorating the organization's 25th Anniversary. Dr. Susan Wessler, another UGA professor at the time, received that inaugural award. SURA's Development & Relations Committee manages the solicitation, screening and selection of the recipient from a SURA member institution. The president of each of SURA's 62 member research universities is eligible to make one nomination for the Distinguished Scientist Award.

The award and honorarium will be presented to Dr. Schaefer at a reception in Tampa on March 29, with a brief address to the SURA Board of Trustees the next morning.

Policies addressing childhood hunger should target neighborhoods, not individual families, according to new research from Rice University.

Sociologists found that children living in neighborhoods with higher poverty rates and in those with high foreign-born populations and non-English speakers are more likely to experience hunger.

"Policymakers should be thinking about targeting whole communities, instead of what is done now, which is offering public aid programs for individual families," said Rice sociology professor Justin Denney. "Public aid works on a limited basis, reaching approximately 70 percent of eligible individuals. But unfortunately, the remaining 30 percent are unaccounted for."

The study, published in the Journal of Applied Research on Children, was co-authored by Denney and sociology professor Rachel Tobert Kimbro, co-founders of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research's Urban Health Program at Rice, and postbaccalaureate fellow Sarita Panchang. They used data from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, a nationally representative dataset of more than 20,000 kindergarteners in 1998-1999, to examine individual, family and neighborhood characteristics of children who are or are not affected by hunger. In the dataset, the children were clustered according to schools and neighborhoods.

Kimbro said that many of these children facing hunger have foreign-born parents fearful of applying for aid, despite their children's eligibility as citizens of the U.S., or parents ashamed of applying for public aid. By changing the focus of these policies away from the individual and on to the community, she said, parents might take advantage of community food programs.

"If we have policies targeted at neighborhoods rather than individuals, no one is excluded," she said.

The authors hope their findings will influence future policies addressing issues of childhood hunger.

"Families are critical for childhood development, but communities and neighborhoods have significant impacts as well, as this study clearly demonstrates," Kimbro said.
